Amazon Gets Epix Movies as Netflix Exclusive Expires - Peter Kafka - Media - AllThingsD: "In the last year, Netflix lost its digital distribution deals with Sony and Disney. Which means if you’re watching a newish movie on the streaming service right now, there’s a very good chance it came from Epix, a pay-movie channel that supplies films from Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM.And now, if you watch movies from Amazon’s “Prime Instant Video” service, you can see the same movies, including hits like “Iron Man 2,” “Thor” and “Captain America.”Amazon announced a new “multi-year licensing agreement” today, just a few days after Netflix’s exclusive deal with Epix expired."

TV Catchup for Android arrives on Google Play -- Engadget: "TVCatchup, our favorite and most-used TV-watching service has brought its app over to Android. The service, which we've found to be much more reliable than the BBC's live streams on our flaky connection, lets you watch nearly 60 free-to-air channels available in the UK. The ad-supported app is available for free on Google Play right now -- as long as you've paid your license fee, folks."

Amazon gets Epix video rights to challenge Netflix - Business - Boston.com: "Netflix has entered into Internet video licensing contracts that could require the company to pay as much as $4.5 billion through June 2015, according to its latest quarterly report. The rising cost of online content has caused Netflix to carefully assess the financial pros and cons when the deals come up for renewal. Netflix lost the rights to video from the Starz channel earlier this year after concluding the content wasn’t worth the asking price."
